‘Teen Mom’: Amber Portwood finally opens up about jail decision (video)

Amber's speaking out.

While Amber Portwood’s struggles with addiction and the law have played out time and time again in the tabloids, the “Teen Mom” star has very rarely addressed much of the drama surrounding her life publicly.

Much of this changed on Thursday, when in a public interview with “Good Morning America” Portwood admitted for the first time she she recently attempted to take her own life for a second time:

“I took 30 Suboxone [used to treat opioid addiction] within three days … The depression took over. I’d just take four to five at a time underneath my tongue, and nod out. I had more than addiction problems. I had, you know, mental problems, too.”

As for why Portwood ultimately made the decision to give in to the legal system and allow herself to be sentenced to five years in prison, she claims that there is no other way that she has to get clean — and with that in mind, this could be the best option for her to change her life down the road.

After watching this interview, has your opinion of Portwood changed at all? You can see Portwood again on “Teen Mom” beginning Tuesday, June 12 on MTV.
