Ignoring the original series, Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Piper, Agyeman, Tate, Coleman and Gillan have all done Emmy-caliber work repeatedly (as did John Hurt in his guest appearance). Just people haven’t been paying attention, is all. But this season Peter Capaldi has done work that if Doctor Who was Emmy-eligible (I’m told it isn’t) he’d win hands down, if you combine Zygon Inversion, Face the Raven and now Heaven Sent (with probably more to come in Hell Bent). He’s done some amazing work.
