‘Smash’: Debra Messing, Daniel Zelman to keep divorce amicable

She's keeping it civil

Mrs Carter: Keeping it civil is best for everyone involved.

It’s always hard to keep things amicable throughout a divorce while still trying to work through all those hurt feelings, but ‘Smash’ star Debra Messing and her husband Daniel Zelman are doing everything they can to keep it civil as they work out the details of their divorce.

Everyone has their different reasons for keeping a divorce civil (or not civil as the case may be), but for Messing and Zelman the reason behind working things out amicably is based on keeping things as normal and as pleasant as possible for their 8 year old son.

According to People Magazine, Messing cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce and she wants them to share custody of their son (which is so very cool). The ‘Smash’ star’s rep said;

“Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman have agreed to amicably end their 10-year marriage.  In keeping with their mutual wishes, Ms. Messing filed the divorce papers earlier yesterday in Los Angeles. They remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.”

Messing and Zelman exchanged their wedding vows back in 2000 and although they announced their decision to end their marriage in December of 2011, the actual separation date listed in their court documents is 2010.
