While Stefan and Caroline on “The Vampire Diaries” may never be romantic (at least in comparison to how Klaus and Tyler feel about her), the show’s executive producer is hinting that the two are poised to form a tight bond in the weeks that follow up the season 4 premiere this October.
Speaking out at the ATX Television Festival panel this past weekend (per TV Guide), Julie Plec tried to describe the blossoming friendship between the two characters in terms of one of the faces from Stefan’s past with Lexi:
“I always look at Caroline as Stefan’s future Lexi … You’ve seen little pockets of a friendship spark between them, and I see Caroline in the long run of the series becoming that important in Stefan’s life.”
Stefan is sure going to need a shoulder to lean on during much of the early part of this coming season — while he is set to learn soon that Elena has chosen being with him over his brother Damon, he is also poised to find out that thanks to Dr. Fell’s decision to heal her quickly using vampire blood, she is now one of his kind.
As for how Stefan will feel about that, Paul Wesley has already hinted that his character will spend part of season 4 trying to find a way to change her back to a human — that is, if there is any way that it can happen. When you include Caroline’s transformation during season 2, there really are only just a few characters (such as Matt) who have no supernatural powers at all.
Do you think at this point in his life, friendship may actually keep Stefan from going off the rails again?
