Steven Soderbergh’s trailer for his new film ‘Haywire’ has been released and it promises to pack a heavy punch and take no prisoners.

The trailer opens up with mixed martial arts star Gina Carano kicking some major butt in a diner. The scene is reminiscent of Juliette Lewis’ opening scene in NBK and interestingly enough Gina’s character is also named Mallory.

The film follows the character of Mallory Kane; a female coverts ops specialist who wants answers after she finds out the agency she works for has betrayed her.  What’s a little disappointing about the plot of the film is that it mirrors so many other films and shows; it’s almost like a female ‘Bourne Identity’ meets ‘Burn Notice’.

When speaking at the ‘Haywire’ Comic-Con panel on Friday, director Steven Soderbergh, talked about the first time he say Carano fight on TV and how he built the entire film’s plot around her.  He went on to say that the first time he met her he didn’t even have a story in mind, saying;

“I felt it would be fun to watch it be created around her.”

Kind of an interesting idea as most film directors approach talent after they already have a script or at least an idea in mind.

The film has an all star cast with Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton, Channing Tatum, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, and features new comer, Gina Carano as Mallory.  ‘Haywire’ is set to be released in January of next year.
