I am confused by the title of this article. William Grey is not the same character as Lord John Grey. Spoiler alert. I will try to explain who William is without giving away the hows and whys. But if you haven't read the books, you may not want to read further. William is Jamie's illegitimate son and Lord John is William's step father. This is all primarily in future books. So if you have only seen season 1, this will not make sense. Lord John is a gay gentleman put in charge of the prison where Jamie is serving his term. It is a long, long story as to how Jamie comes to father a child of a wealthy English woman and an even longer story how prisoner Jamie Fraser comes to be a life long friend of the Englishman in charge of the prison. Suffice it to say this all takes place during the time thatClaire and Jamie are apart and have no idea if they will ever see each other again. William's mother dies on the day he is born and so does her husband, the the man she marries after William is conceived. Lord John marries the baby's mother's sister primarily to care for Jamie's child. If you have not read the books it is hard to sort out the characters, but William Grey is most definitely not AKA Lord John. William does provide a life long link between Lord John and Jamie Fraser though.
