For this special edition of “American Idol” notes, we are focusing entirely on one of country music’s biggest nights — the 2012 CMT Awards. We have already teased that Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and Casey James will be performing on one of the side stages — and with some of the new presenters, this is really starting to feel like a show reunion.
On Monday, CMT announced that Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, and Jordin Sparks will be joined by recent “Idol” contestants Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon as presenters for the show — which airs on Wednesday, June 6. Lauren, Scotty, Carrie, and Kellie are up for awards on the show, and it’s possible that three of them could leave the show as winners. (Scotty and Lauren are competing against each other in their one nomination.)
“Idol” and country music have had a long-standing relationship ever since Carrie, and more former contestants have had success in this genre than any other. Even season 5 winner Taylor Hicks is in the process of recording a country record, and some other singers from the show to pursue a career in the genre include Michael Sarver, Baylie Brown from the top 24 this season, and Danny Gokey.
Do you love how the CMT Awards is going to have such an “Idol” presence this year?
