You may have loved Catherine Tate on “The Office” this past season, or you may have hated her — either way, her character of Nellie is coming back.
According to TVLine, Tate has been promoted to a series regular for the show’s ninth and potentially final season — meaning that she will be staying put in Scranton after all of the drama that unfolded with her and Andy this past season. Effectively, she will be filling a role left open by Mindy Kaling — who has left the show for her new fox comedy “The Mindy Project.”
Ultimately, we’re a bit mixed on Tate’s return to the series — we loved her in Florida, hated her when she was allowed to steal Andy’s manager job in the most unrealistic way imaginable, and then liked her again during the season finale. With David Wallace taking ownership of Dunder-Mifflin, this series looks to be returning a bit to his basics after the Sabre debacle — and it’s to be seen if this strategy will end up paying off.
What do you think about Tate staying put on the show, and what role should Nellie be utilized on the show moving forward?
