While it was in many ways a “blink and you’ll miss it” moment from the “Blackwater” episode of “Game of Thrones” Sunday night, fans who were paying attention to Tywin Lannister’s great reveal in front of the Iron Throne were likely quick to notice one thing — Ser Loras Tyrell riding next to him. The character was best known on the show for his relationship with Renly Baratheon prior to his death, and while it may or may not be shown on the season finale airing in just a few days, there was a backstory that showed how the character ended up going from grieving to finding a new place alongside Tywin.
So what is this story? Based on what actor Finn Jones tells “Access Hollywood” in a new interview, this is what we can expect to see in the finale from his character (if it is shown at all and the adaptation is faithful — which has largely been the case):
“All of his life he’s devoted… everything to Renly. He didn’t really have many friends. Renly was his main friend, his main lover, and he did everything for this guy and then the guy dies and his life just falls into utter chaos… He’s picking up the pieces, but he’s got no one really around him to help him out, and that’s where his family and Littlefinger manipulated him into joining the Lannisters. But, I don’t think he really knows what he’s doing. He’s kind of recklessly trying to seek some kind of revenge, but not really thinking about it wisely. [He’s] just doing what he’s told, really.”
Loras’ journey is just one of many questions that is out there for the finale at the moment, as we (at least those of us with no knowledge of the source material) are still wondering about Tyrion’s fate along with what Tywin’s arrival means when it comes to his role as Hand of the King.
What do you want to see presented to us in the finale?
