It’s not often that David Letterman does interviews away from his own show, so with that in mind his chat on “Piers Morgan Tonight” Tuesday is all the more memorable — especially when you consider that it was Regis Philbin serving as the guest home.
During the interview, there were a number of interesting subjects that Letterman’s old friend got him to discuss — including his admiration and friendship with the late Johnny Carson, who served as a lead-in for Dave back before he moved over to CBS for “The Late Show.”
Letterman also opened up during the interview about his relationship with his wife Regina — who (along with his white socks) is one of the few topics that he almost always refuses to address on his own show. While he still did not get into many details, he did recall to Regis a story about his whole family taking up skiing together, and how his wife was nervous about the danger associated with it.
Letterman recently passed Carson for being the longest-tenured host in the history of late night, and he has a new contract that will keep him at CBS for 30 years — one that many believe could be his last.
What do you think about Letterman being so open here with Regis?
