We’ve been waiting for a long time to see the wedding between Jules and Grayson happen on “Cougar Town” — but during Tuesday night’s season finale, we finally got an opportunity to see the two get closer to the big day.
But did the two end up actually walking down the aisle? Really, it’s complicated. After the first half-hour largely detailed the bachelorette party and paid homage to the classic Bill Murray film “Groundhog Day” (complete with the alarm ringing), it ended with the couple deciding to elope immediately rather than to wait for a massive wedding.
Things actually changed once they were out in Napa Valley — they ended up having the whole gang present rather than just a few select people, and then they decided yet again not to go through with it. What’s the reason this time? They couldn’t get Grayson’s daughter out to California, and it was one of the things that he really wanted at the last minute.
In the end, though, they decided to tie the knot in their own spontaneous (and surprising way) — on a beach that does not even permit beach weddings (which literally led to them doing the ceremony while moving along the sand as the cops started to get suspicious). There was a nice moment for Laurie and Travis, some additional comedy for Ellie (who spent much of the episode hitting on David Arquette’s character), and in the end a scene where the newly-married couple rode off on horseback into the sunset.
After a season that really was stuffed full of so much uncertainty from the moment that production ended, it was nice to see “Cougar Town” wrap things up in a way that few saw coming. While we predicted that Jules and Grayson would get married, who saw it playing out like this? Now that the show is heading to TBS, the question moving forward is how to keep the relationship fresh.
What did you think about the finale?
