For our Monday edition of “American Idol” notes, we’re going to touch a bit both on the winner and the runner-up of this current season — and in addition to that, we also have a new quote via Carrie Underwood to share.
Jessica Sanchez at PBS special – Unfortunately, the Memorial Day Concert featuring our season 11 runner-up was called early due to some dangerous weather in the area — but we at least have a video of the National Anthem.
Although this should not really come as much of a surprise to anyone who watched her all season, Jessica completely kills “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which once again proves that “Idol” contestants are the people you want to call if you want a stirring rendition of the song. (Kelly Clarkson has become a favorite of many sports events.)
You can check out a video below via Mjsbigblog. Jessica has since left DC for Orlando, where she is celebrating with many other season 11 contestants for the day. She’ll be heading off to New York City soon for a brief publicity tour.
Phillip gives his car away – Phillip would actually be at Disney World with his fellow contestants if it wasn’t for his upcoming surgery Tuesday, but he is still making headlines for an entirely different reason.
According to TMZ, the recently-crowned champ has decided to gift his brand-new Ford car he received during the show finale last week to his parents, and it’s for one rather surprising reason — he prefers to keep driving the 2001 Ford Ranger that he has been using for years.
If nothing else, you certainly can’t accuse Phillip of letting his fame get to him — even when it comes to the set of wheels he drives around.
Carrie talks Twitter – Carrie Underwood joined Twitter earlier this year, and with that she really became one of the last major “Idol” stars to do so.
So why the delay? In a new interview with CMT, Carrie explained that she likes to be rather calculated when it comes to technology, and not dive in before she knows it is something that is going to stick around for a while:
“New things like that scare me. I want to see them established and see what they are before I figure out if I want to be a part of it or not. I saw Mike do it. Mike did it for a year before I joined, and he really used it for good. He did not use it for evil. He used it for good. He put out positive messages and thanked people. Seeing him do it took the fear out of it for me. “
Carrie is certainly going to find Twitter useful this year, as she will be traveling all over the country soon to help promote the music on “Blown Away.” Is anyone up for a tour?
As always, check back for more “Idol” news soon!
