Rated this around C. I actually had more of a problem with David Tennant who played Killgrave overacting way too often to the detriment of the character and thought Krysten Ritter got it just about right. She was fine but the casting in the show wasn't great across the board. If your lead and your villain are both either poorly portrayed or only so-so, the show automatically has a problem.
Out of all of the performances though, Mike Colter was the standout. He got the tone right and made you really care about his character. Makes me think Luke Cage will be more successful than Jessica Jones as a show based on how good he was in this.
I think it was absolutely right to kill off Killgrave as it was a bit too claustrophobic in the plotting and the actor wasn't giving enough of a grounded performance to make any of the threats seem real, so it got way too cartoonish when he kept evading Jessica. I think it would have been better if we had Killgrave mostly heard not seen until the last couple of episodes and saw more of Jessica solving other investigations.
Not a patch on Daredevil which got the casting and writing of the villain really spot on. Wouldn't bother to watch JJ2 but based on how great Luke Cage's character was in this, think that show might be the one to match Daredevil plus the casting in it looks heaps better than the fairly lackluster casting in JJ. Overall, not tightly enough written, villain underwhelming and overused in the plot and lead actress was good but should have been great.

I think you are kind of crazy for thinking Ritter needs some help. I really liked her portrayal. I could very easily see Jessica Jones being a real person that exists, outside of the super strength and jumping. She isn't the most charismatic person, but she isn't supposed to be. Kilgrave was supposed to be charismatic, and he definitely was. I don't know where season 2 is going to go, but I am excited to find out.

I do agree with you about the Simpson character too.

Your review nailed the 2 points I had issues with:
(1) they should NOT have killed Killgrave. I was expecting him exiled like Hannibal Lecter, or something on those lines. ( and I could be biased because I just loved David Tennant's take on this villain, and wanted a lot more than just one series)
(2) Ritter was really good in the scenes with Tennant. Heck, even Luke Cage had great chemistry with Killgrave.

Great writing, and really good show. Not a big marvel fan myself so I had to binge-watch it, indicates how riveting the show is.
