Unfortunately, Superman is not going to be flying next year, after all. At Comic-Con 2011 on Thursday, it was announced that the upcoming Superman movie “Man of Steel” will no longer have its premiere occur in December 2012 — instead, the movie is getting pushed to June 14, 2013.
So why the shift? First and foremost, it may be due to the competition that it would have faced from “The Hobbit” and “The Lone Ranger” in that month — not to mention the face that big-budget superhero movies tend to naturally fare better in the popcorn-loving summer months than the holiday season.
With this move, “Superman” will now likely face competition that same summer from two other movies in the genre — sequels to both “Iron Man” and “Thor,” which came out earlier this year (which proves that this “Avengers” team is not exactly permanent). Other Superhero movies still coming in 2012 include “The Amazing Spider-Man” as well as “The Dark Knight Rises.”
