My answer is a qualified yes: only if the people responsible for that horrible final season have absolutely nothing to do with the new series.

And one more thing: I strongly suggest the new writers simply throw out the final, badly-written two seasons, as if they didn't exist. Make them a bad dream, or just ignore them. Bring back Deb and LaGuerta, and get on with the show.

If the return of the show present us a man who seeks to redeem himself for all the crimes he has committed in the past, I gladly will watch it. Provided they demonstrate a very complex man due to the fact that he now have feelings but not the tools that he needs to overcome them. It will be necessary that there be many obstacles on his way to the point that we ask ourselves if he'll reach the road to redemption, or if he will take the old one.
An asset that would be interesting is to add a female character that will remind us the spitting image of Debra's personality. The interaction with this character and Dexter will bring an interesting aspect of the show because of the very complex relationship that may develops between the two, driven by the guilt feelings of Dexter on the responsibility for the death of Debra.
In short, if the show can successfully develop a strong deep psychological aspect of his main characters while combining it with a certain amount of intrigues and actions, I think it will start on the right foot.
