In keeping with our theme Thursday of pretty much being “all ‘American Idol‘ all the time” following the season finale, we have quite possibly the most vicious (albeit honest) commentary we have heard yet about Phillip Phillips’ win.
In a post on Twitter after the show, season 10 alum Stefano Langone (who has dropped his last name as a performer) ripped the voting public for not choosing Jessica Sanchez — and as a result he feels as though the voting at this point really does not even matter:
“Let me clarify… Congrats to Phillips! For the integrity of the show, to me this is a travesty. The result this year solidifies the reality of idol no longer being a talent show … But a popularity contest. Unfortunately I’m not the first to have noticed. I tip my hat to both Jessica and Phillip. Hoped for a different outcome.
#idol can’t wait for next year #:)”
While we know that not everyone will be pleased with Stefano’s opinion, we can’t really blame him for having one — though we wonder if him saying this caused him to lose the support of people who loved both him and Phillip. If nothing else, the timing couldn’t be more convenient for the guy — after all, he just released his new music video for “I’m On a Roll.” We still love the catchy tune, and the cameo by Casey Abrams is funny even if his character is a tad predictable.
What do you think about Stefano’s comments?
