Just in case you want even more information about how Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, and the “American Idol” finale … here you go!
America picks their favorite – When it comes to coronations songs, Phillip’s “Home” is easily dominated Jessica’s “Change Nothing.” The former is currently #1 on iTunes and could be poised for a great debut next week; meanwhile, “Change Nothing” is actually sitting outside of the top 100 (which just goes to show that a bad song can damage a singer now matter how amazing their voice is).
For the record, it should be pointed out that Phillip actually has ten songs from the season in the top 200; meanwhile, Jessica doesn’t have any.
Jimmy Iovine talks “Change Nothing” reaction – If there is someone who should take the blame for Jessica’s song failing, it is Interscope head Jimmy Iovine. So he is allowing himself to take most of the heat? Not exactly.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jimmy acknowledged that the song was not one that worked well at all — however, he also made it clear that Jessica did have other choices:
“It did bomb, didn’t it? The song didn’t work well live … [Jessica had a choice of] three or four different songs … We don’t force the kids to do anything.”
Phillip says “Home” not first single – Speaking of controversial statements about coronation songs, Phillip seems adamant that despite the song being quite possibly one of the best ones ever to close out a season, he doesn’t want “Home” to be synonymous with his music.
Speaking to former contestant Didi Benami to THR, he explained that he picked “Home” mostly because there was no time to ready anything else:
“The song that I did tonight that supposedly is my single, it’s not really my single, I told them it’s not my single … [But] I couldn’t do my song [on the finale]; we just didn’t have enough time.”
Have you picked up either one of these singles?
