Wednesday was the final day of the May sweeps, and with many primetime series saying goodbye until the fall, there were a few that decided to go out with a bang.
Fox – Of course, “American Idol” won the night and surged upwards to a 6.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic along with over 20 million viewers. However, remember that the show brought in an 8.9 rating last year and nearly 30 million viewers, and this is not nearly as impressive. It marks the show’s lowest-rated finale ever.
ABC – The Eye aired a few finales, and while “The Middle” (2.0) and “Modern Family” (4.1) were on part with recent installments, “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23” surged up to a 2.5 rating (even though it will probably be adjusted down a tenth in the finals, which has been the trend). “Revenge” also rose to a solid 2.4 for its shocking finale.
NBC – “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” still scored a 1.5 despite heavy competition at 8:00 p.m. Eastern; the only other new programming was the season finale of “Law & Order: SVU” at 10:00, and it brought in a 1.9.
CBS – All repeats. Nothing to see here…
The CW – A special recap episode of “America’s Next Top Model” earned a 0.4 rating — and yes, it is strange that the finale next week is airing outside of the sweeps.
Are you surprised at all by the “Idol” finale numbers?
