‘American Idol’ notes: Scotty McCreery, Kelly Clarkson, and Elise Testone

The passing of the torch.

Let’s hope you are prepared for “American Idol” overload on Thursday — we’re going to have plenty more coming up in the way of coverage today, but for now we’re going to focus on some singers who are not named Phillip Phillips or Jessica Sanchez.

Scotty McCreery sends his congratulations – Granted, the above statement does not mean that the singers we are talking about have nothing to do with the season 11 champ. Scotty currently wins the award for “classiest congratulation,” as he posted a rather kind message following the show on Twitter:

“Passed the torch on to a well deserving artist, @PPhillipsAI11.. take it all in and enjoy it man! Tonight your life has changed forever!”

Phillip can only hope he has the career that Scotty has obtained so far — the country star’s debut “Clear As Day” has sold more than a million copies, and has done so without really having any sort of breakout singles to anchor its success.

Elise already has tour plans – We have a feeling that the one thing Phillip is going to be struggling with in the months ahead is having to sing covers on the tour rather than original music, but at least he may have an opportunity to do some memorable duets in the process.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Elise Testone says that she has already requested Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” as a song to be included on the show:

“I really hope that’s going to happen … I don’t see why not.  There’s, like, 2 million hits on that song on YouTube and everyone’s asking for it.  Hopefully they’ll put it in there.”

As much as Phillip joked about Elise forcing him to do the song, this actually was one of his more memorable performances — and this is with him even messing up on the chorus for it. Considering how current this song is, we’d be stunned if it is not a part of the tour.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Darkside” video – Before we get to the premiere of Kelly’s new ABC show “Duets,” we have a brand-new music video featuring her rocking out her new song “Darkside.”
