As unusual as the headline may sound, it does look as though it is going to make for some rather interesting TV.
In a new post on his Twitter, “Piers Morgan Tonight” executive producer Jonathan Wald confirmed that Regis Philbin will be filling in for Piers as a guest host Tuesday, and he will be interviewing one of his longtime friends in David Letterman. This interview is monumental for a number of reasons — with the principal one being that the “Late Show” rarely does interviews on other programs, with his only notable appearance in the past year being a stop at “Live! with Regis and Kelly” shortly before his friend’s departure last year.
It’s hard to necessarily say what the interview will entail, but it should make for great TV as the two have a playful rapport — and also have no problem making fun of each other (and their work) on a routine basis.
Letterman recently inked a new two-year contract that will keep him at CBS until 2014; meanwhile, Regis has said that he is not retiring from the world of television despite currently not having a talk show to call home.
