With Kelli Giddish missing at least a month(or more) for the birth of her baby, and ICE_T and Peter Scanavino probably missing time when their wives give birth, Mariska Hargitay looking for at least $500,000 per episode to come back for a season 18, and Warren Leight leaving after season 17 to go work for Sony(and ZERO reports of NBC looking for a replacement) this may be the end for SVU. Can NBC really afford to let it end? NO, but NBC doesn't have a clue what it is doing anymore. Taking money away from SVU(no more Det. Amaro as of now) and spending more money on Mysteries of Laura(the NBC Pity renewal that probably kept a lot of people from being fired) and its PITY WOMAN, Debra Messing, shows what a disaster NBC is. It is need of a major housecleaning from the Top Down. The 4 way crossover may be a feeble attempt by NBC to try and save SVU, but they don't know what they are doing.
