For our Monday evening edition of “American Idol” notes, we have quite a bit to talk about leading up to the finale — including why Jimmy Iovine believes that Phillip Phillips could be a great winner despite many male singers having trouble in the record-selling department after the show.
How will Phillip succeed? – Jimmy Iovine took part in a conference call with reporters on Monday, and in the process he did his best to strike down the idea that Phillip Phillips would automatically fail after the show simply because he was the sort of singer-songwriter that typically fails to find much of a footing.
While Jimmy stressed that Phillip is going to have to work hard to make a career happen, he also put some of the responsibility on himself to give the Georgia native the right tools to succeed:
“He has the advantage now of people hearing him in incredible circumstance that a lot of people know who he is. That’s an extraordinary advantage. Now he has to go make a record that lives up to the popularity and the hype and yet go make his first record as an artist. Which is not always the easiest thing. He’s got to put a lot of work into it and we’re going to help him a lot.”
Just for kicks, you can see Phillip in a new “Idol” promo below for the finale Tuesday alongside Jessica Sanchez.
Jordin Sparks sings with Whitney Houston – Not only did the season 6 champ Jordin get the opportunity to star in Whitney Houston’s last movie “Sparkle,” but she also has the honor of recording Whitney’s final song with her.
The rack (which you can hear below via The Hollywood Reporter) is called “Celebrate!”, and it is really a rather fun piece of music that shows off some tremendous talent at work.
David Cook focuses in on an album – For all you David Cook fans out there, don’t be discouraged by him recently parting ways with RCA; he is still working on putting out a new album, even if it takes him some time to get it in stores.
Speaking to radio station Mix 104.1 on the subject, the season 7 winner said that his top goal at the moment is recording more new material, and after that he will focus on trying to get some more opportunities to perform live:
“My priority is to get a record out. I don’t know how that’s going to happen yet, but we’re going to make a record and get it out and make sure that my fans know that I appreciate all the support, and that we’re going to keep making music as long as they’ll keep enjoying it.”
