While there were some loose ends tied together on the season finale for “Grey’s Anatomy” last week (including the departures of Teddy and Lexie), we also still have plenty of questions that remain unanswered. While we know that most of the other actors are signed on for more work with the show, there are still questions about how they will remain at Seattle Grace — or about how they will be rescued following the plane crash.
Speaking to E! News, executive producer Shonda Rhimes did her best to arrange the people who were for sure both alive and at the hospital moving into season 9, and then the people who are question marks moving forward:
“The chief, Owen and Callie are the only people alive and definitely still working at the hospital … Bailey’s husband is moving to L.A. Five people are still in the forest. Jackson and Alex have taken jobs elsewhere. April Kepner doesn’t have a job. So, I can’t give anybody reassurances about anything because we don’t know who is going to be at the hospital next season.”
One of the biggest questions we have about season 9 is how the death of Lexie is going to weigh on Meredith — in particular when you look at some of the tragedy that she has been through already. The same could also be said for Mark, now that he has vocalized the full extent of his feelings for her (even though it was too late for anything to come out of it).
It’s still unclear whether or not the show will pick up in the fall immediately after the crash, or several months down the road. Stay tuned — either way, we’ll have more information once it is available.
