So who were some of the big winners of the 2012 Billboard Music Awards? Check this space throughout the entirety of the show, as we are going to have continuous updates when it comes to the top trophies handed out throughout the night.
Social Artist of the Year – Justin Bieber. Bieber’s award was particularly notable for those hoping to see a shot of Cady Eimer — the teen girl who he invited after he was unable to attend her senior prom.
Spotlight Award – Katy Perry. Katy is only the second person to ever receive this award, joining Michael Jackson in the exclusive club of having five #1 singles from one album.
As for Bieber’s speech, it was so refreshingly humble we don’t know what else to say.
Best New Artist – Wiz Khalifa. It was great to see the “Black and Yellow” hitmaker receive some love, and it was also interesting to see that Miley Cyrus chose to dress up for occasion by wearing a sheet.
Woman of the Year – Taylor Swift. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. We knew this award was coming, and it is perfect recognition for all of the good charity work Taylor has done over the years.
How 100 Single – LMFAO, “Party Rock Anthem.” Considering how much radio airplay the song has received over the past 12 months, this is hardly a surprise at all.
Duo / Group – LMFAO. This is really turning out to be quite a night for party-rocking! These guys beat out the likes of Coldplay and Maroon 5.
Male Artist – Lil Wayne. He was the first person to not be in attendance, and presenter Gladys Knight accepted it on his behalf.
R&B Artist – Chris Brown. Chris had more R&B songs on the top ten of Billboard’s top ten than any other artist in the past year.
Millennium Award – Whitney Houston. As a part of a moving tribute to the show featuring the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Whitney’s own family, Houston’s contributions were honored.
Billboard Icon – Stevie Wonder. Is there a more deserving person out there than Stevie? We don’t think so.
Rock Song – “Pumped Up Kicks,” Foster the People
Rock Artist – Coldplay
Dance Artist – Lady Gaga
