We have yet another look now at next week’s “American Idol” finale, and this time it is coming along with some brand-new reports (via TMZ) that Phillip Phillips‘ kidney problems are becoming so bad that he is not only in serious pain, but he needs to undergo kidney surgery immediately in order to correct some of what is currently plaguing him.
Does this mean that Phillip will take this advice? Probably not — at least not until the end of the season. This story is a massive sympathy vote, and while it shouldn’t be used in a singing competition as a reason for votes it probably will. (At least on “Idol” proper this season they have not made a big deal out of it like they did with Lauren Alaina’s throat problems last year — which were so bad that they hauled out a doctor on stage to explain the diagnosis).
With that story out of the way, let’s get to the theme for Tuesday’s performance show.
1. First, the contestants will perform their favorite number of the entire season. (Our picks? “Thriller” and “I Will Always Love You” — though if they are talking about just a past live performance, “Volcano” would work.)
2. Creator Simon Fuller will pick a performance for each of them.
3. Finally, they will each perform their coronation song — and we wonder if it will be one Phillip has any say in as a songwriter.
As for who we think will end up winning, check back Saturday for our full rankings. Do you think Phillip’s kidney problems could end up helping him to win?
