Ratings: ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Person of Interest’ swallow ‘Community’ finale

We're just happy it's returning.

For those of you hoping that “Community” would go out with a bang for its season 3 finale, prepare to be a little disappointed. Why? Let’s just say that the audience who tuned in for the final episodes of the season was the smallest yet for the critically-acclaimed comedy.

NBC – Overall, “Community” set a new series low by scoring a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic for each of its three new episodes Thursday night. However, it should also be noted that this was still enough to tie for #1 on the network — “30 Rock” also posted a 1.3, and “Awake” received just a 0.7.

CBS – The season finale of “Rules of Engagement” should be rather happy with scoring a 2.1 rating considering the competition — and the fact that it followed up a “Big Bang Theory” repeat. Meanwhile, “Person of Interest” and “The Mentalist” each closed their seasons with 2.5s and over 12 million viewers each.

ABC – While the canceled “Missing” only drew a 1.4, the season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” ended up surging to a 3.9 that was the second-best on the night. The finale of “Scandal” also rose on its way to a 2.4, its best number yet.

Fox – While “American Idol” won the night with a 4.2, “Touch” managed to lose over half of that lead-in and scored just a 1.8. Did Fox make the right decision renewing this over “Terra Nova” for next season? We’re skeptical.

Are you surprised by the “Community” finale ratings?
