‘American Idol’ finale: Scotty McCreery to join Phillip Phillips for results

Who's going to win?

At the moment Phillip Phillips is probably the favorite to win this season of “American Idol,” and it looks like he will be joined during the season finale next week by someone else who has been in his position before leading up to the finale.

Fox announced following Joshua Ledet’s elimination Thursday night that Scotty McCreery is going to return to the show for the results show on May 23 in order to perform — a tradition that most “Idol” winners (with the exception of Lee DeWyze last year) have had the opportunity to do during the finale. Scotty will be joined during the results show by Rihanna, and Aerosmith is also rumored to be performing (though this has not been confirmed just yet).

In going back to Phillip, he is starting to amass a bit of a celebrity following after Jessica Sanchez has spent most of the season being the consensus favorite for many stars. In a new video below, you can see country music superstar (who is strangely from the same small town of just 3,000 people in Leesburg, Georgia) give Phillip his endorsement to take home the title. Rob Thomas has also spoken out in the past few days, and claimed that he liked his version of Matchbox 20’s “Disease” — a performance that was largely panned by the judging panel and Jimmy Iovine.

Who do we think is ultimately the most deserving of taking home the title? We will answer that question on Saturday, when we post our final rankings of the season.
