Earlier Wednesday, we first wrote about some talk that Jennifer Lopez could be leaving “American Idol” after two seasons courtesy of an interview she did with Ellen DeGeneres — one where she suggested that thanks to her children being a little bit older now, she may want to go and do some other things with her career.
Since that time, this story has managed to spiral even further out of control. Now, an E! News source is claiming that J.Lo is getting set to leave the hit Fox show, mostly due to her own feeling that there are other things out there that she would like to do, but has not been able to thanks to her current commitments.
So is this set in stone? Far from it. Speaking to TMZ, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe insists that he is going to do everything he can in order to keep Jennifer around again following this season — even though the numbers are down and her judging has constantly been criticized since her debut:
“We want her back. I want her back … I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down.
“I know how much she loves doing the show and how much she cares for the kids … It’s a business. She has to weigh everything. I know she’s gotten lots of offers to do movies and other things.”
Ultimately, do not write off Lopez as a judge next year just yet. “Idol” could still throw an enormous sum of money in her direction, and these sort of stories that come out beforehand are frequently just negotiation tactics in order to get the best deal possible.
Do you think that we will see more of J.Lo next year?
