While we’re not entirely sure why ABC is so intent on consistently turning their upfront presentation into a comedy show, they have done so yet again this year courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel — a man who wasted no time going after “The X Factor” for deciding to make Britney Spears a new judge for the new season.
First, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host (who ironically had Britney on his show last year for a mini-concert) started things up by mocking Spears’ history with a conservatorship:
“As you know Britney Spears has been wanting to be a judge ever since she spent the last 10 years appearing before them.”
While the reaction to this joke was not completely positive, he did not stop when it came to the Spears jokes — in particular going after Simon Cowell and company for paying the pop megastar $15 million to join himself, L.A. Reid, and Demi Lovato on the panel:
“If you pay her $15 million, how much would you have to pay someone who could sing?”
Rumor has it that Spears has been preparing for this gig for several weeks now courtesy of media training, and she is beyond excited to help craft the star of tomorrow on the show. If you want further explanation on the hiring, be sure to check out Cowell’s new interview with “Extra” below.
Do you think that Kimmel was a little harsh on Britney, or is he just doing his job here and should not be taken too seriously?
