If you watching the season finale for “Gossip Girl” on Monday night, then you are obviously aware already that it was polarizing — we further saw Serena continue her downward spiral, and Blair moved away from Dan as she finally decided to pursue a man who was no longer as interested in her as she is in him — Ed Westwick’s Chuck Bass.
So what does one of the show’s executive producers have to say about the big move from the finale? Speaking to TVLine, Stephanie Savage teases that this decision by Blair sends her down a direction for the show’s final season — and it brings up some bad news for fans of Dan and Blair in the process:
“It was Blair coming to declare that she was in it to win it with Chuck and leaving that [relationship’s future] as the question of Season 6 … We crafted the last act of the episode to set us in a certain direction next year.”
The unfortunate thing for the show is that by making two men in Dan and Chuck who each bring something to the table, they polarized the fan base to such a degree that no matter who she chose, people were going to be upset. After the way in which the “Dair” story was handled, we have seen a plethora of threats over the past twelve hours from people saying that they no longer have any interest in watching the show.
What did you think about the finale, are you do you think the show setting up Chuck and Blair is going to make a ratings dent in what is already a low-rated series?
