As you probably know by now courtesy of “The Vampire Diaries” finale this past Thursday, Elena is likely going to be even less of a normal girl than she already was — specifically, she is going to be sprouting a set of fangs unless the Salvatore brothers manage to find a way to keep it from happening.
While we have already talked a bit about how this will impact Elena moving forward, there is another question worth asking here — is Jeremy also going to be getting caught in the crosshairs? Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec says Stephen R. McQueen’s character is going to be going through a pretty major adjustment over much of season 4 — specifically, he is going to have to find a way to handle being the only remaining mortal in his family:
“Jeremy now truly is the ‘man of the house.’ He’s also the human of the house … Matt just had his life spared. Everything that’s about to happen to Elena is because she wanted him to live. So that’s a big burden on a young man. He’s gonna have to figure out a way to earn that and to feel good about the way he lives his life, so that he feels like he lived up to her sacrifice.”
Moving forward here, the next big question is just how Jeremy is going to be able to handle, outside of Matt, being alone while surrounded by supernatural people — and this is with him still seeing the ghosts of those previously gone from the earth.
Since Jeremy is the only member of Elena’s family really left, let’s just hope that Plec keeps him alive for a little while longer — even if she is a vampire, doesn’t she need someone at her side with this sort of bond?
What role do you want to see Jeremy have in season 4?
