I think that he would, but it would seem very weird watching Fin(ICE-T) take orders from Amaro, never mind watching Rollins take orders from him. This is where NBC really screwed up. IF there was ANY CHANCE IN THE WORLD that they could have kept Donal Logue on the show(He’s on GOTHAM now) they should have signed him to stay on SVU. He could have been the Captain, Benson could have stayed the Sergeant, and everything would make sense. If Amaro becomes the Sergeant, it’s going to make a mess of the ROLLARO relationship that so many people want to happen. Since there is almost ZERO chance of Dann Florek or Richard Belzer coming back to the show full time, maybe they will bring in someone to be the Captain that won’t cost a lot of money. Kathryn Erbe perhaps? I would guess that if they brought someone in to be the Captain, We will probably not see Peter Scanavino anymore, unless heaven forbid NBC actually is willing to INCREASE THE SVU PAYROLL! What a miracle that would be.
