I never said that what Supernatural is comparable to the Simpsons, but there’s no sense in just keeping something going just for the ratings. It makes it harder and harder to maintain an overarching story line over the entire series when the writers have no idea how or when it will end- ultimately that does more harm than good. Taking the first 5 seasons of the show, for example. The content of those seasons are what series creator Eric Kripke envisioned for a complete series, and for the most part if was efficiently planned and executed. Because of the show’s popularity, it kept going beyond that original ending but because the original story was over, future content was basically made up as they went along. Now, because the future of the show is now at the whim of the network and not at the creative liberty of the writers, story lines become brief and have no interconnection, and they have to jump the shark every season by coming up with something new every season that may or may not be the Winchester’s last hunt. In fact, over the last few seasons Supernatural has consistently created more plot holes and continuity errors than any other show I can think of that’s not a cartoon. I still watch it because I still do enjoy the show- but it’s also kind of sad to see what has happened to it because they won’t let it end. So yeah, if the show keeps going indefinitely to no end, there’s no way I can call it anything other than another Simpsons.

Did you just compare Supernatural to the simpsons? You’re kidding right? As long as Supernatural continues it’s high standard for quality content, there’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t go on another 10 years. They have a winning formula, with endless possibilities, it would be stupid to end it just for the sake of ending it.

This was what I was thinking as well. a backstory spin off would be best.

As far as spin-offs go, I don’t think Bloodlines worked since it didn’t involve any existing characters. I’d love to see one with Jody and all the girls she’s taken in. A group of bad-a$$ hunter ladies? Yes. And then they could crossover with the main show, too.
