2012 Emmy preview: Jessica Pare of ‘Mad Men’ submitting as lead

Could she get a nod?

We all know that “Mad Men” is an awards darling — what we didn’t know was that Jessica Pare was going to be so bold as a newcomer as to submit herself as a lead actress for the 2012 Emmys.

According to Gold Derby, Pare (who plays Don Draper’s new wife Megan on the AMC series) is being joined in the lead category by her co-star Elisabeth Moss, while the other two popular ladies on the show in Christina Hendricks and January Jones (who was off most of this season due to her pregnancy) are each entering the race in the supporting actress category. (Jon Hamm will be the only actor submitting for the lead category.)

While Pare has done a fantastic job (and her rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou” has become an internet sensation), both actresses could have trouble competing in a category this year that could feature the likes of Claire Danes (“Homeland”), Katey Sagal (“Sons of Anarchy”), Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife”), and possible frontrunner Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey,” which is submitting as a drama series this year).

We will ultimately find out the 2012 Emmy submissions later this summer. Do you think that Pare is making the right decision here? New “Mad Men” episodes will continue airing Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
