I keep hearing how classically trained India is and I’m not feeling it. Is she pretty? Absolutely, stunning, and her voice is pretty, but Kimberly is also a beautiful woman and when she sings it’s transforming. Also looking at the retweet numbers that night, I’m not sure how India won. Must have missed something or they were keeping results hidden.

Technically, I consider India to be a better singer than Kimberly. However, when it comes to presence and performance, Kimberly wins that contest. Song choice makes a big difference. If nothing else, the one thing I’ve learned since watching the Voice is that we are a country music-centric nation. The heartland helped India eek out a win over Kimberly, primarily because India is more “familiar” and accessible. Kimberly’s edginess and over the top performances, while exciting might have been somewhat off putting to the Blake Shelton crowd and let’s face reality here: India consciously played to that audience and Kimberly did not. Unfortunately, performers and politicians alike must know who their audience is and how to pander to them.

Whitebread ways? People making race an issue in such things as a singing contest that has nothing to do with race seem petty to me. People like the voices of people for the simple reason they like the voices of people, it has zero to do with color of one’s skin or their ethnicity. I love Bruno Mars, not because he is black, but because he is awesome, gifted and a great entertainer. I love Reba McIntyre because she is awesome, gifted and a great entertainer. I am not particularly fond of Blake Shelton’s music, but he seems like a nice person.
I would buy any music Pharrell makes but is not crazy about Xtina. I also love Nina Simone, Taylor Swift, Shakira, James Taylor, Katie Perry, David Gray and many other songsters.

Can you tell me what color I am?
