‘Duck Dynasty’ review: Fishing trips and a sewing surprise

Once again, there were few ducks.

It’s over a month into “Duck Dynasty,” and it’s still hard to figure out what exactly makes this show as spectacular as it is. It’s not only hilariously funny, but it’s also just one of those concepts that is so ridiculous, it’s hard to look away. The family genuinely seems to care about each other, and we never really feel that these situations are scripted — even if they feel that way on other reality shows.

There was nothing in Wednesday night’s new episode even related to duck-hunting or duck calls, and yet we still loved every second of it. Willie and Jase (with the help of their equally-silly sons) decided to get involved in a bit of a flexing contest competition selling the catfish they caught on a fishing trip, and we quickly learned one thing — no one wants to buy fish that you catch while out on a fishing trip. As a matter of fact, we’re pretty sure that Jase’s product turned putrid on the back of his pickup truck before he and Willie came up with a solution involving a local restaurant.

Elsewhere, we learned this week that Si could sew as he helped some of the ladies design an apron for bustier women — mostly because he was the only person around who could actually sew. Then again, this is what makes the “Dynasty” so fantastic to watch — despite how stereotypical you may think some of these people are, there really are layers here. Willie’s a smart businessman under that beard, and Si is apparently more than just the token crazy uncle of the group.

We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again — we hope that if this series returns for more episodes in the future, that the boys of Duck Commander continue to stay the same and don’t let their new found fame get to their heads. This is, after all, one of the best new reality shows on all TV — and we couldn’t bear to see it change one bit.

Did you love this episode?
