Pilot scoop: Pickups impact ‘The Office,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother’

Kelly's likely gone.

Bad news for fans of Mindy Kaling on “The Office” — Kelly Kapoor may be singing her swan song during Thursday night’s season finale.

Fox has announced that they have picked up the tentatively-titled “Mindy,” a comedy from the actress / writer that features herself as a doctor. Her recent onscreen love interest in B.J. Novak is set to serve as an executive producer on the project.

With all this, it’s pretty much impossible that Kaling can continue on the hit NBC comedy, which is likely going to return for what many believe to be its final season. However, she may make at least one guest appearance to explain Kelly’s absence if it is not discussed during the finale in any prominent way.

In other pilot news, Fox has also confirmed that they have ordered both “Ned Fox Is My Nanny” (from Nat Faxon, writing partner of “Community’s” Jim Rash) and “The Goodwin Games” from “How I Met Your Mother” executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to series. Considering that Becki Newton is one of the stars on this series (which involves three siblings coming back together following the death of their father), is it fair to say that Barney and Quinn don’t stay together? If the two are meant to be moving forward, it’s going to be tough for Newton to find the time to revisit the “Mother” universe on any sort of regular basis.

Are you excited for these new shows, or are you concerned with what sort of ramifications these pickups could have for what is already on the air?
