After weeks of speculation (and claims that a contract would be signed “any day now”), it finally looks as though it is a done deal — Britney Spears will be a judge on the American “X Factor” this coming season.
Speaking to E! News (who first reported the news Wednesday), a source close to the “…Baby One More Time” superstar explained that the deal was finally signed earlier this week after some lengthy negotiations:
“The contract is signed … There’s been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she’s on. It’s all completed and Britney is beyond excited.”
Britney’s deal will be $15 million over one season, and it is unclear whether or not there are any options for her to continue with the show beyond that. This may be a test run for all parties involved to see if Britney’s presence brings the show higher ratings, and if she manages to be successful when it comes t giving succinct, honest feedback in a high-pressure environment (which is something that Nicole Scherzinger struggled to do greatly).
Season 2 of “The X Factor” will begin filming in a matter of weeks — and while there has been no formal premiere date yet, it is expected to launch at some point in mid-to-late September.
Do you think that Britney will be a capable judge for the show, or is she the wrong choice to handle a job that involves negativity and harsh criticism from time to time?
