Earlier this year, Jermaine Paul was a virtual nobody in the eyes of America, as he was a struggling artist making a living as a background singer for Alicia Keys. Now, he is an instant star courtesy of a surprising victory on season 2 of “The Voice” Tuesday night.
So how does Jermaine look back on the victory now? The champ appeared on “The Today Show” Wednesday morning (without getting any sleep at all), and told Matt Lauer that he hopes that his story will work to inspire other background singers out there to know that they don’t have to settle for what is already given to them. This was the culmination of a lot of dedication, and he and coach Blake Shelton (who is also the champ for the first time) worked tirelessly to try and figure out what songs would work best for the audience while at the same time telling his own personal story.
As a result of being on the show Jermaine will get a major record deal, and the opportunity to become a big star. Will he sell better than Javier Colon in the marketplace? Only time will tell.
Now that you’ve had a night to sleep on it, how are you feeling about Jermaine coming out on top?
