‘American Idol’ notes: Kris Allen, Casey Abrams, and Jessica Sanchez

More music from Kris!

For our second Tuesday edition of “American Idol” notes, we have a good bit of great music, along with some clarification on what sort of music Jessica Sanchez and the remaining three contestants are going to be performing during Wednesday night’s performance show.

An acoustic jam – Kris Allen is still in the process of promoting his sophomore release “Thank You Camelia,” and with that we have a brand-new acoustic version of one of the hits from the disc in “Better With You.”

It’s not much of a surprise that we like the acoustic version almost as much as what we’ve heard of the studio version, mostly because this is the Kris that we really came to know and love on “Idol” to begin with.

This song is a special track on the fan edition of the album, and you can pre-order it over at Allen’s official store.

New music from Casey – Kris is not the only person that we have music from today — we also have a new song to show off courtesy of Casey Abrams.

We knew that this guy was enormously talented on “Idol” last season, but now we are really seeing the full extent of his writing and musicianship. We absolutely love “Midnight Girl” (which was released online Monday along with three other songs) — it has a beautiful melody, some distinct Tracy Chapman vibes, and of course Casey’s distinct voice.

If we were picking one artist from season 10 to listen to based on the original music we’ve heard, we’d pick Casey — in between his pleasant voice and the personable lyrics, it’s just hard not to listen to him and smile. Sometimes, you need music to just put you in a good mood.

A clarification on the top 4 theme – When we first heard that the theme for Wednesday show was going to be both songs from California artists along with songs that the top 4 wish they had written, there was one question that entered our mind — what does the latter theme really mean? Are they just performing songs that they love so much that they want to pretend that they are their songs?

In a post on Twitter, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe clarified that Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Hollie Cavanagh, and Phillip Phillips will be tackling some lyrics that inspire them and that they relate to. In other words, expect Jessica to tackle something pop / R&B while Phillip goes for the classic rock angle. (Oh, and Joshua will probably sing soul.)

If the tradition holds, we should have song spoilers Wednesday afternoon — so check back for that!

As always, stay tuned for more of the latest “Idol” news!
