Warning: If you have not watched the end of “Castle” Monday night, you probably do not want to read on. Otherwise, enjoy some of the first scoop concerning the show’s upcoming fifth season.
They did it! It was four seasons in the making, but on the season finale Castle and Beckett finally put everything out in the open, kissed, and then did something else that was off-camera.
So what does this change in the pair’s relationship mean moving forward? Although they are now together, there are many cases left to be solved — and that is the sort of theme that executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe addressed after the show to TVLine:
“In terms of storytelling, we felt like we were dangerously close to trying the audience’s patience – and we were starting to get impatient ourselves. We want to move on to new territory … We feel like we wrung everything out of them not being in a relationship, so it’s time to put them in a relationship and in more, different fun.”
There is still the case of Beckett’s mother floating around out there, and that will be something that is addressed both early and often during season 5. The other good news is that the decision by Alexis to attend Columbia University does keep her more than involved with the show, even if we see her in a different environment than we have come to do so in the past four seasons.
Ultimately, the real hope for the show moving forward is that now that the relationship has finally paid off, the spark stays lit for a few more seasons so we can see what Castle and Beckett really are going to be up to next.
Now that these two are together, what do you want to see happen for season 5?
