As we put in our recent ratings debate, the odds of “Cougar Town” getting a season 4 on ABC are pretty low. Not only are the ratings lower than every other comedy currently on their schedule, but it is not close enough to the 88-episode syndication threshold it would need in order to make a renewal worth the studio’s while.
However, what we didn’t count on was the possibility of the show getting a reprieve somewhere else for another go-around on TV. According to a new report from Deadline, TBS is currently considering whether or not they will pick up the series if ABC chooses to drop it later this month. A rep for the network’s parent company Turner is currently not commenting on the talk.
Ultimately, the thing fans should remember here is that there are plenty of these negotiations with bubble shows that do not work out — as a matter of fact, only a few shows end up being a “Southland” or a “Futurama.” Considering that repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” on TBS get numbers close to what new “Cougar Town” scores already on ABC, the show would need to keep most of its audience in a transition to cable in order to make it a successful move.
What do you think of the idea of “Cougar Town” taking its wine over to TBS?
