“Saturday Night Live” tends to fare well in the ratings when athletes stop by to host, and Eli Manning can be boast now that he managed to continue the trend with this weekend’s show.
Overall, the program (which also featured the mega-popular Rihanna as the musical guest) scored a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which was easily enough for the show to be #1 on the night over everything in primetime and beyond on the broadcast networks. It is not only above the season average for the show, but it is the highest-rated installment since Lindsay Lohan hosted the show (and received mostly negative reviews for it) back in early March. (Granted, the show has taken a pair of hiatuses since that time, as well.)
The good news is that next week, the show should be able to continue the positive momentum. Will Ferrell is going to be making his third appearance as host since leaving the show a decade ago, and Usher will also be performing for the third time. (The season finale on May 19 will feature Mick Jagger as both the host and musical guest.)
