Emily Maynard’s season of “The Bachelorette” is still a week away from premiering, but there is already a man who everyone is talking about — Arie Luyendyk, Jr.
So who is this guy? He is a 30-year old man born in the Netherlands, but what may be most interesting to many is that he has a deep connection to racing just like Emily’s late fiance Ricky Hendrick. Arie has a lengthy and successful career in the IndyCar world, and it is something that Emily knows very well.
However, is it really fair to cast someone for this show considering this sort of past? You would think that it would painful for Emily to even speak about the racing world after Ricky’s death in a plane crash, but in speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the cast show host Chris Harrison insists that this is not the case:
“It’s not like after Ricky died she never went to the track. The racing world is still a big part of her life … and Arie is an IndyCar driver, not NASCAR.”
We haven’t even seen Arie yet and cannot really judge him, but he is the sort of contestant who is an instant threat to either be out early or go far. Emily obviously is attracted to men with racing backgrounds, and she loves in a North Carolina region where racing is king — he’s either going to have an enormous advantage here in winning her heart, or she is going to say she is not interested in someone whose profession is so close to Ricky’s that she thinks about him all of the time. (It’s also possible that these two already even have some mutual acquaintances.)
Do you think Emily should pick someone like Arie, or is unfair to even judge him before we see him on the show?
