Emma Watson — from ‘Harry Potter’ to ‘Beauty and the Beast’ project?

Chris Marra

Although her work on the “Harry Potter” franchise may just be ending, there is now a report suggesting that Emma Watson may be moving on rather quickly to another popular adaptation.

According to reports, Watson is being discussed to play the lead role in an upcoming re-telling of “Beauty and the Beast” courtesy of “Pan’s┬áLabyrinth” director Guillermo del Toro. This would mark Emma’s first major foray back in genre filmmaking since the “Potter” saga came to an end, though she is also in the upcoming “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”

Rather than actually direct the project, del Toro is being used in a sort of “creative consulting” / producer role. It is a credit he has taken on in a number of different films as of late. (He was set to direct one of the greatest genre films of all in “The Hobbit,” but backed out due to timing.)

Do you think playing the role of Belle / the Beauty / whatever she is called here could be a great move for Watson to make?
