There’s some breaking news coming out courtesy of “The X Factor,” and it is looking more and more like we could be seeing Demi Lovato take the reigns as the fourth judge on the Fox series for season 2.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the onetime star of “Sonny with the Chance” — who also has released a number of successful albums including the recent “Unbroken” — is deep into negotiations to join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, and presumably Britney Spears on the panel when the show begins filming its auditions in the coming months. While Demi may not be the most experienced choice out there for the job, she has been in the entertainment industry since she debuted on “Barney & Friends” at seven years old (along with friend Selena Gomez), and knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a star.
From a business standpoint, Cowell also likely realizes the benefit of drawing more young viewers to the series, especially since the target age range for advertisers is between 18 and 49. In addition, Demi (who had in many ways a breakout hit with “Skyscraper”last year) should bring far more positive publicity to the show than Nicole Scherzinger, who was heavily criticized as a judge and once even booed off the stage. She has taken part in a number of anti-bullying campaigns, and uses her own experiences and struggles with self-confidence as a way to inspire others.
Fox will likely confirm the judging panel at their upfront presentation later this month. If the rumors are true, do you think that Demi would make a great addition?
