Big news for fans of Adam Lambert out there — the singer will be returning to “American Idol” on May 17 (the week before the season finale) in order to perform new single “Never Close Our Eyes.”
Adam confirmed the news Monday afternoon in a post on his Twitter account, though it hardly comes as a surprise — it has long been known that the season 8 alum would be returning to the show to perform a song off of “Trespassing,” and there were few dates even open at this point in the competition for him to appear.
With this announcement, “Idol” has officially done a pretty stellar job this year at promoting new music from their past singers — everyone from Adam to Kellie Pickler to Stefano Langone has had a shot, and the only real omissions we can think of when it comes to artists with new music are Kelly Clarkson (who has performed on a plethora of other shows) and season 9’s Casey James (who at least had the opportunity to perform on former judge Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show).
What’s your reaction to this news? Carrie Underwood is set to be the guest performer during Thursday night’s results show. Also, be sure to pick up “Trespassing” when it arrives on stores on May 15.
