‘American Idol’ notes: Colton Dixon, Skylar Laine, and Kelly Clarkson

Colton had a rather special meeting.

For our Sunday afternoon edition of the “American Idol” notes, we have more headlines from past and current contestants — plus a headline from our host.

Colton sees stars – On Saturday night, Colton Dixon represented the “Idol” community as a guest of the Christian Broadcasting network for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night. The photo of the left features Colton with actress Kate Hudson, but he also had the chance to meet such people as Diane Sawyer, former “Idol” mentor Mary J. Blige, and even the dinner’s chief comedian in Jimmy Kimmel.

All in all, not a bad way to spend a Saturday!

The top 5 see other stars – Meanwhile, the remaining five contestants all had an opportunity this weekend to take in a baseball game courtesy of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was Skylar Laine who made the announcement in a post on Twitter, and she also commented that one of the players in Bryce Harper is “pretty darn cute.”

We can see the dating rumors starting now between Bryce and Skylar, and they will be just as true as the ones linking her to Colton.

Kelly Clarkson films “Dark Side” video – If you head over to Just Jared, you can see a rather fashionable Kelly filming the music for her third single “Dark Side.” Based on the success of “Mr. Know-It-All” and “Stronger {What Doesn’t Kill You),” it’s possible that she could have yet another hit on her hands.

Ryan’s new NBC deal official – Finally, Ryan Seacrest has officially inked his new deal with NBCUniversal that allows him to do some more work with “The Today Show” while at the same allowing him to continue his responsibilities hosting E! red carpet shows. (However, he will not be on E! News Now as regularly as he has been in the past.)

In a new statement, NBCUniversal head Steve Burke had this to say about the deal:

“We look forward to his continued role on E! and to having him appear on many new places across NBCUniversal, including the Today show and at the Olympics … his is a great example of how NBCUniversal is able to provide the perfect home for some of the best people in the business.”

As always, stay tuned for more “Idol” news!
