For our first of what is looking like it will be two “American Idol” notes Sunday (with the second coming later in the day), we are going to be taking look at some kind words, new music, and a nice new video uploaded to make us remember David Archuleta.
Kind words for Jessica – We know that Jessica Sanchez is the favorite to win this season of the show based on some comments made by one of the people who mentored her this season.
Speaking at Billboard’s Latin Music Awards in Miami this weekend, Akon admitted to E! News that she is the sort of performer that he would want to sign in a split-second if he was ever handed the opportunity to do so:
“I know I shouldn’t be saying this, but I kind of want her to get voted off so I can sign her … She’s beyond the talent that’s supposed to be there. I think she’s overqualified, I really do.
“And she’s only 16. Like, I’ve been around a lot of superstars. I haven’t seen anyone at that age sing like that.”
Jessica is currently #2 on our “Idol” rankings, and would probably be at the top were it not for Phillip Phillips proving to have the largest voting block on the show week in and week out. Based on everything we are hearing, though, it’s looking like Sanchez may have the best shot out of anyone this season at being a recording artist after the fact — and it doesn’t really matter whether she wins or not.
New music from David Cook – Who doesn’t love new music via David Cook? The season 7 winner performed a new song entitled “From Here to Zero” at an event for Mix 94.1 in Las Vegas late last week, and we have to say it’s rather fantastic.
While it’s not necessarily a new direction musically for Cook at all, the lyrics are rather beautiful and this could have a shot at being a hit down the line. David will also be performing on “Idol” later this year, and according to Mjsbigblog it will be a different new song than the one rocked out here.
Memories of David Archuleta – For those of you missing fellow season 7 alum David Archuleta while he is off on his Mormon mission for the next two years, his family and team are doing their best to slowly put out some content to keep him fresh in the minds of his fans. The newest effort? A behind-the-scenes video looking at his “Nandito Ako” series from the Philippines.
While the video may not be groundbreaking, it’s a nice look inside what David was up to during the show’s production — and at this point, any insight into his life is rather nice.
