“Fringe” fans, rejoice! Fox has just announced that the hit sci-fi series will in fact be back for a fifth season — with one caveat.
Like with “Chuck” last year, “Fringe” has been renewed for a short season of just 13 episodes before wrapping up with a series finale. With this, the series will get to 100 episodes, and also provide fans with some much-needed closure that the season 4 finale will not provide.
In a statement, Fox programming head Kevin Reilly had the following to say on the subject:
“Fringe is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve … The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.”
With this, one ratings debate (which we correctly predicted) can be finally put to rest. Also, we give some serious credit to Reilly and the network for actually allowing this series to have a fitting conclusion, even if the profits are no longer there like they once were.
